The installation of a four-link portal crane requires a systematic, step-by-step approach. This process includes preliminary preparation, component installation, and commissioning. The following method summarizes a typical installation process. However, actual operations must strictly adhere to the specific drawings and technical specifications.

Pre-installation Preparation

First, confirm that the installation site is level and meets the load-bearing capacity requirements. The foundation must be inspected according to the drawings. Inspect all components, such as the turntable, A-frame, boom, and others, for damage, deformation, or rust. Prepare tools such as wrenches, jacks, and levels. Construction personnel must receive safety training, wear safety helmets, and establish a warning area to ensure safety.

Turntable and A-frame Installation

Hoist the turntable as a whole onto the gantry beam flange. Align the bolt holes, connect, and tighten. Then, install the ladder and railings. Hoist the A-frame onto the turntable, correcting the center line and levelness. Spot weld, and after verifying that the dimensions are correct, fully weld it in place.

Installation of the Traveling Mechanism

When transporting the gantry crossbeam in sections, it needs to be assembled in the construction area. Use the lifting rail or base as a reference to position the four bases. Ensure they are on the same horizontal plane, with an error of ≤ 2mm. Verify the base distance and track gauge, allowing an error of ± 5mm. Align the end beam connecting supports with the running mechanism flanges and bolt them. Trim the bottom outline of the end beam support to fit the flange, spot weld, and then hoist the crossbeam. Trim the round opening and adjust the cylinder axis, ensuring a coaxial error of ≤ 3mm. Finally, verify the dimensions and fully weld all joints.

Installation of the Boom System

After pre-connecting the boom and the trunk beam, hoist the entire system above the turntable. Connect the lower hinge of the boom to the turntable support by inserting a pin and fixing it with a retaining plate. Connect the rack head of the luffing mechanism to the middle hinge of the boom, install the pin and retaining plate, and simultaneously tighten the brake to prevent movement. After hoisting the large tie rod, first connect it to the trunk beam hinge point, and then connect it to the swivel column hinge point.

Installation of Luffing and Balancing Mechanisms

After hoisting the luffing mechanism to the luffing platform, position it and align the center line of the cradle with the platform. Ensure the coaxiality of the motor, brake, reducer, and cradle support axes, with an error of ≤ 2mm. After debugging, weld the support to the platform. Hoist the balancing system to the A-frame platform and connect it to the balance beam support. Use a hand-operated hoist to adjust the small pull rod connecting the luffing rack head to lock the balance beam.

Electrical System and Debugging

Install the electrical control cabinet, limit switches, cable reels, and other electrical components. Check the wiring for correctness. After installation, conduct no-load and load test runs to test the hoisting, traveling, and luffing functions. Additionally, check the brakes and limit devices.

Conclusion

The installation of a four-link portal crane is a complex process that requires careful planning and execution. Each step must be performed with precision to ensure safety and functionality. By following the outlined procedures, one can achieve a successful installation, paving the way for efficient operations in heavy-duty port and bulk material handling.
